Build a complete job with Auto Build

Auto Build is especially useful for orders containing many logos, transfers, or text labels. For example, you might need 30 copies of one logo at 3 inches, 10 copies at 5 inches, and several text labels. Add each item, enter its print size and quantity, then let Auto Build arrange the complete job.

If you started arranging manually, you can still open Auto Build. Builder collects matching copies already placed on your active sheets and turns them into artwork cards with quantities, so you do not need to start over.

Prepare the artwork cards

Each artwork card tells Auto Build what to place.

  1. Upload artwork or select it from the sources the shop has enabled. Selecting the same artwork again increases its quantity when a matching card already exists.
  2. Set the number of copies required for each item.
  3. Enter the printed width and height. Keep proportions locked when the artwork should resize without stretching.
  4. Use the available image-editing or text-styling controls when needed, and wait for each preview to finish.
  5. Duplicate a card when the same artwork is needed at different sizes. Give each card its own dimensions and quantity.
  6. Remove any card that should not be included in the generated job.

Choose the allowed sheet sizes

The checked sizes are the only sheet sizes Auto Build may use. Uncheck any size you do not want in the result.

For example, if the product offers 22×24, 22×60, and 22×1,000 but you do not want a very long sheet, uncheck 22×1,000. Auto Build then works only with the remaining sizes and may use more than one smaller sheet when the complete job cannot fit on one.

The selected sizes also limit the maximum artwork dimensions you can enter. If an artwork item is too large for every selected size, allow a larger sheet or reduce that item's requested print dimensions.

Selecting more than one size gives Auto Build more permitted sizes to work with. Auto Build arranges the job based on fit; it does not promise the lowest Shopify price.

Choose product options and spacing

Other product options apply one option combination to the complete generated job. For example, selecting Matte means every generated sheet uses an available Matte variant. Auto Build shows the sheet sizes that work with that option and does not mix Matte and Glossy sheets in the same result.

Spacing controls the production room between items and between artwork and the sheet edge:

  • Smaller spacing packs artwork more tightly.
  • Larger spacing leaves more room for cutting.
  • When spacing cannot be changed, the shop has fixed it as a production requirement for the product.

Generate and review the result

  1. Confirm that every artwork card has the intended quantity and print dimensions.
  2. Select at least one sheet size and complete any other product choices shown.
  3. Adjust spacing when the shop allows it.
  4. Select Auto Build.
  5. Review each generated sheet, including its size, product choice, artwork placement, quantities, and any artwork Auto Build rotated to improve the fit.
  6. Select Back if you need to return to the artwork cards, sizes, product options, or spacing and generate again.
  7. Select Confirm to apply the complete generated result to Builder.
  8. Review every resulting sheet again before saving or adding the design to cart.

The pages in generated review are sheets from one complete result, not alternative layouts where only one sheet is selected.

Reclaim space with Auto Nest

Auto Nest rearranges artwork already placed on active sheets. It is useful when artwork was deleted or resized, a new logo created awkward gaps, or several manually prepared sheets contain unused space. It repacks the existing artwork without rebuilding the job as Auto Build cards.

When the design has multiple sheets, choose the scope carefully:

  • Auto nest only the active gang sheet reorganizes only the sheet you are editing. Use it when every other sheet should stay unchanged.
  • Auto nest across all active gang sheets repacks artwork across the complete design. Use it when several sheets have wasted space. Sheets with different product-option combinations remain in separate groups.

When a smaller compatible size is available, Builder also asks how it may change sheet sizes:

  • Use smallest possible sheet allows Auto Nest to move the work to smaller compatible sheet sizes. Use it when you want to reclaim unused sheet space.
  • Keep current size or grow if needed keeps the current size when possible but allows a larger compatible sheet when the artwork requires it. Use it when the chosen size should not shrink.

If no smaller compatible size exists for the selected product options, this size-choice step is skipped. Auto Nest applies the rearrangement immediately after the available choices; there is no generated-sheet review before it changes the layout. Review every affected sheet afterward.

Adjust the result

  • The Auto Build button is disabled: add at least one artwork or text card, set a quantity, select a valid sheet size and product option, and wait for any image edit or text preview to finish.
  • The sheets are larger than you want: uncheck unwanted sizes and generate again.
  • The job uses too many sheets: allow a larger size, verify the artwork dimensions, or reduce spacing when the shop permits it.
  • Artwork prints at the wrong size: correct that artwork card's width and height, then generate again.
  • The same artwork is needed at two sizes: duplicate its card and give each card its own dimensions and quantity.
  • The wrong finish or other option is selected: choose the correct product option and generate again.
  • An item cannot fit: allow a larger sheet or reduce that item's requested print dimensions.
  • An artwork edit or preview is pending: wait for it to finish, or correct the failed edit, before generating.
  • The confirmed layout needs a small change: make the manual adjustment in Builder. See Arrange and edit artwork.
  • Auto Nest should not change every sheet: choose the active-sheet option instead of all active sheets.
  • No smaller-sheet choice appears: the current product options do not provide a smaller compatible size.
